PICK A SCHOOL, ANY SCHOOL

When choosing where to live most families justifiably consider the quality of the

Colorado Springs public school district to be an important factor for their children's future. Having

taught from pre‐school through high school levels in five different states, I too value

school choice as an important aspect of finding the best place for your family to live

though I may define "uality"differently.

The criteria which makes one school superior to another is a multi facetted topic.

Typically families focus on test scores, on reputation, on financial backing, or on

state standing. Some families look for which school sends the highest number of

graduates to Ivy League Universities while others search for a sport, a special needs

or a music program. These are all valuable considerations.

I agree that we need to weigh these considerations. However ultimately I believe

we need to find that place where each child can and will be likely to achieve their

highest personal potential both emotionally as well as intellectually. That may or

may not happen in the same school district for every child. A school district

considered to be generically "est"in the city may not be "est"for a particular

child.

Having taught special needs children (most specifically children with emotional

and/or behavioral issues), I believe a family will benefit from finding a "it"for them

and for their children. A fish out of water will not swim. What is "est"for one child

may not be "est"for another. Remember children are little souls with a need to be

appreciated, accepted, valued and loved.

In my opinion, no one school district is "est" Only that setting where a specific

child is most likely to grow as an individual with unique needs, desires, and dreams

is "est"for that child.

Where a "est"quality school district rating does consistently affect location choice

in a generic manner, regards investment value but that may be another BLOG topic

for exploration in the future.
