Cheyenne Mountain State Park is located on the south end of Colorado Springs, near the base of Cheyenne Mountain. This spot marks the transition between the plains of Eastern Colorado and the Rocky Mountain foothills. A resident herd of mule deer and a flock of wild turkeys, as well as black bears, elk, bobcats, coyotes, and many other smaller creatures, including two huge colonies of black-tailed prairie dogs, have resulted from the combination.
The park contains a diverse range of floral plants and birds that represent both the plains and the foothills zones.
