History of Victor, CO

The storied history of Victor is the very reason the community is now nicknamed “The City of Gold Mines”.

In 1890, gold was discovered in Victor, leading to an explosion of wealth and fortune. It was a sign of prosperity that continues to this day. At the peak of the gold rush here, the county made more than 10 billion dollars in 2020 money.

World War One halted the mining in the area, but today those historic buildings still stand, as do many of the mines that can be seen from many of the hiking trails in the area.
